The news of the resumed attempts to provoke violence at Russian-Georgian frontier is not surprising. Vladimir Putin is back to the throne, Russia's problems will likely keep getting worse and the increasing protest energies need to be channeled towards an "external enemy".
In the given circumstances, Georgia seems to be an ideal "whipping boy": the devastating Russian invasion of August 2008 clearly demonstrated that Georgia has neither allies, nor powerful friends that would be prepared to stand for that little democratic nation.
